On Tuesday I saw an opportunity, so I seized it! John had been working in Birmingham and was going to be late home. It’s rare I’m home before him as his hours, and commute, mean he’s home before I’ve even finished my day.
Having not specified that the home cooked meal had to be anything out of the ordinary I had the ingredients for pasta, veg and bacon (i.e. we had tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach and bacon!) to increase the element of surprise when he walked through the door I also ‘created’ a pudding!
I checked in with him on my way home form work to find he wasn’t that far from home, having not been as late as he earlier thought! I still had time for a dash to Aldi and to light candles before he got in, the surprise was intact!
Pudding was the biggest surprise, John would do anything for custard! Having found a tin of cherries in the cupboard I bought a roll of puff pastry and being ultimately lazy I cut two squares off and cooked these then microwaved the cherries with the custard and positioned the now cooked pastry on top, if I was on Masterchef I would call it a ‘deconstructed cherry pie’… Not bad for a Tuesday night!
We followed this up with more jigsaw activity, of course!
