A Year of Dates: Our Story
From a date jar to an award-winning gift business
We're Kate and John, creators of A Year of Dates. It started with a Christmas gift in 2014 – John gave Kate 72 envelopes filled with date ideas. Every Monday, they'd open one and make it happen, no excuses.
What began as a way to keep their spark alive through busy weeks became something bigger. Friends loved the idea, but never had time to create their own. So in 2016, we launched A Year of Dates, turning our personal solution for making time together into a gift that helps other couples do the same.

This is an amazing gift and you can personalise it. There are blank cards inside, you can write yourself for some more adventures. Others are pre printed. It’s exciting as you’re opening each card, each week not knowing what you’ve got. It’s a great way of getting out and about and making memories. We aim to produce gifts that are 100% recyclable, and we encourage all those enjoying opening envelopes to recycle them after they’ve completed their activities.
Our boxes are 100% recyclable, and are constructed from ‘greyboard’ which is made from a mix of recycled and waste paper. The outer wrap paper is also recyclable.
Where possible, the paper we use for our card and envelopes is sourced from FSC-certified suppliers.
Shipping

We wish we could hand deliver every order placed with us. Unfortunately, this isn't possible - so we have to rely on the postman.
We offer free Royal Mail Tracked 48 delivery on orders to the mainland UK over £10. These are usually delivered within 2-3 working days, but this is not guaranteed.
We offer an upgrade to Tracked 24 (next working day) or express which is sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery.
We also offer free international shipping on orders over £60 to most countries.
Our international orders are sent via Royal Mail International, and tracked depending on the destination.
Tracking is provided on all orders once dispatched and will be shown in your dispatch email.
We aim to send your order within 1 working day of receiving your payment. Orders received before 1pm UK time will be shipped the same day (excluding weekends and bank holidays).
*Shipping will be calculated at checkout, and any delivery costs required will be added at this point.

Are the cards suitable for any 60 year old?
Yes!
The cards provide a prompt and inspiration; but they are all open to interpretation, so they can be enjoyed by anyone and tailored to suit all personal situations.
The recipient can decide how, where and when to do each activity, there are no rules - this is meant to be fun!

What is on the cards?
We obviously can’t reveal ALL our of secrets! There is some cross over between the different products with some of the most popular ideas appearing in all of the sets.
The activities are a range of things to do at home, nights out and days out. Some you might have thought of yourself, or be things you do regularly, but how you interpret the card is up to you. All of the envelopes are sealed so you get a surprise each time, if you don’t like what the card says you don’t have to do it, it’s about having fun, but it is also good to try things so don’t just dismiss it.
We haven’t suggested anything dangerous, illegal or scary – there are blank cards in some sets so if you want to swim with sharks or jump out of an aeroplane you can add these yourself.
I don’t have time to do all these things
We know you are busy; a lot of the cards can be done at home in an evening or can fit in with your lifestyle. You also don’t have to open one every week, make it work for you, if just takes a bit of effort.
