It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
There is no denying it, Christmas is coming! The supermarkets are full of decorations, the threat of Father Christmas not delivering is used at least 3 times a day… And the Black Friday deals have started in the middle of November!
Don’t get me wrong we’ll be on those well known websites checking for bargains – we really need a new electric toothbrush! – and those must have gifts that have been requested.
But for small businesses it’s hard to get seen above the constant noise of 50% off deals and to offer such discounts when our margins are tight anyway. There is a real push all year, but particularly now, to shop small more – we know not everything can be bought from independents but if you can swap a few gifts out it makes a real difference to real people.
We won’t be offering discounts on this site BUT we will be giving you more with your order, for the same price; from popcorn to magazines, chocolate treats to money off vouchers, we’ll be releasing different offers throughout November (while stocks last). We can’t compete on price, but we can on that personal touch.
Even if you aren’t buying from a small business you follow then share their posts, someone you know might be looking, or someone might take the hint and buy the gift for you!
Where can you find businesses to support?
Holly Tucker, founder of Not on the High Street and now Holly & Co has launched #campaignshopindependent for this year with some beautiful graphics that we’ll be sharing on our social channels (and on this post!).

Just a Card Week happens the same week as ‘traditional’ Black Friday offering an alternative to the consumerism by highlighting independent artists, makers and businesses – give them a follow on Instagram – trust me you’ll find loads of inspiration!
One of the best things about shopping small is that you get to see the faces behind the products. Meet the Maker a popular version of the month long #Marchmeetthemaker this winter edition runs from 2nd – 7th December. Started by the fabulous Joanne Hawker when she wanted to get her products seen it’s now one of the biggest movements on Instagam. Head over to her page for how to get the hints and follow #meetthemaker to see who is taking part.
