We asked Helen, our E-Commerce Assistant, to try out the teas from stockist Bird & Blend as a refreshing summer drink in the form of a cold brew. Their brews are available in our hamper gifts and also our Seventeen Minutes range – perfect for summer birthdays, wedding treats or just because you deserve a treat!
Over to Helen to find out how she got on with her assignment!
Those who know me are well aware that I’m a tea enthusiast! No sugar, just a splash of milk, and I’m in heaven. But when summer arrives, I often find myself at a loss for what to drink – tea feels too hot, and plain water can be rather dull. So, when Kate suggested trying some of our fabulous Bird & Blend tea bags as a cold brew, I jumped at the chance.
The first task was choosing a flavour, and after some deliberation, I settled on Strawberry Lemonade. It promises a ‘hydrating, low sugar treat packed with real strawberry chunks and zesty lemon peel’. The selection process turned out to be the hardest part (there are simply too many delightful flavours), as the rest was a breeze. I added two tea bags to 500ml of cold water and left it to brew overnight in my water bottle. The next morning, I decided to keep the tea bags in to maintain the flavour – though you can remove them if you prefer – and I was ready to enjoy! The result was a refreshingly flavourful drink with no bitterness (my initial concern) and not overly sweet. You can add honey if you like it sweeter, but since I find cordial too sweet, this was perfect for me.
As a busy mum of three, this is ideal. I’m always on the go and often guilty of grabbing a sugary drink during the day when I realise I haven’t had anything for ages. Having this prepared and on my desk each day has meant I’ve been drinking more water, which is so important in this weather. Even when we’re not in a heatwave, staying hydrated is incredibly beneficial – more energy, better concentration, fewer headaches, improved skin, and reduced hunger – you get the idea!
And if that wasn’t enough, I discovered you can transform your cold brew into a cocktail! Now, there’s a drink I can truly get excited about! This time, I chose the Moji-Tea to mix things up a bit, and it didn’t disappoint. Again, it was super simple: I made my cold brew as usual (it’s part of my routine now) and added it to a cocktail shaker with ice, juice from half a lime, and 50ml of rum. After giving it a good shake, I served it in a glass with a few mint leaves – absolutely delicious!
I’m now a complete convert to cold brews (and the cocktails I can make with them), but don’t worry – come winter, I’ll be back to my builder’s brews (so don’t forget how I like it, Kate! ?) with a bottle of cold brew on the side!
